Agnieszka Duczmal birthday

About

January 8, 2026, Adam Mickiewicz University Auditorium in Poznań.

Maestra Agnieszka Duczmal's 80th birthday – an evening dedicated to an extraordinary artist who ranks among the most outstanding figures of Polish musical culture, and whose artistic achievements have left a lasting mark on the history of conducting worldwide. Over half a century of creative activity, a consistently developed artistic vision, and international successes testify to the extraordinary power of her experience, both professional and personal. She is an authority based on knowledge, artistic courage, and an undeniable influence on successive generations of musicians and audiences. It is also an experience that still resonates with extraordinary power today.
This evening, we measure time and celebrate the anniversary by stopping time for a moment. Because there are moments that last forever. Just like the presence of Maestra Agnieszka Duczmal – founder of the Amadeus Orchestra, an artist who has been shaping the artistic world and the Polish and global music scene for decades. It is also the power of musical masterpieces and the strength of returning to memories.
The concert program refers to works of special symbolic significance. Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations, orchestrated by Józef Koffler, is a piece that, thanks to the first world recording made by Agnieszka Duczmal, has become a permanent part of the history of 20th-century music performance. It is an encounter with Bach seen through the prism of 20th-century sensibility and the extraordinary palette of colors of the chamber orchestra.
Today, it is a piece that symbolically opens and closes musical circles. The work will be performed in collaboration with outstanding soloists from Sinfonia Varsovia and the Polish Royal Opera: Andrzej Krzyżanowski – flute, Arkadiusz Krupa – oboe, Jakub Jackowski – English horn, Piotr Kamiński – bassoon.
Franz Liszt's Mephisto Waltz, in Agnieszka Duczmal's masterful arrangements, prepared especially for this occasion as a gift to our audience, reveals a completely different side of the evening – full of drama, irony, and virtuosity. This piece, balancing between fascination and anxiety, becomes a musical story about crossing boundaries – so close to the Maestro's artistic path.
May this concert be a moment of shared celebration and admiration for all of us – for music and for the Maestro, who has been its steadfast guide for decades.
